May 2020 Impact Report

Good afternoon,

As a community, we are facing many challenges. In these times of uncertainty and change, it's more important now than ever before that we stand united. The generosity and compassion flowing from our Givable members has been overwhelming, and we appreciate your outpouring of love for organizations that do so much good in our city. We are so proud of the Givable community for raising a total of $6,358 for local nonprofits in May

In these times of civil unrest, we stand by the black community by connecting people to nonprofits whose missions are to create a racially equitable region, such as Forward Through Ferguson and A Red Circle. These and so many of the other organizations that we feature fight for equity in St. Louis, and now, more than ever, it is essential to support their efforts to generate positive change.

June is Pride month; while events and activities may look a little different, our support for the LGBTQIA+ community is not postponed. At the heart of Pride is a celebration of collective resilience. For the remainder of the month, you will see an updated Pride logo on our social media platforms — we stand with you! 🏳🌈

Nonprofit Connection—Virtual Edition

We are thrilled to announce that the return of Nonprofit Connection is next week! This event is a quarterly series created to foster learning and networking for the people powering our region's nonprofits. Due to COVID-19, we canceled our last event in May, but Nonprofit Connection is back this month (VIRTUALLY).

Join us on Wednesday, June 24th, at 4 PM for a livestream presentation from Tyler Mathews, Executive Director of Venture Café St. Louis. Tyler will present best practices for taking your events and programming virtual!

The video will stream directly from our Facebook page—tune in live at 4 PM, and ask questions directly on the post. If you can't tune into the livestream, you won't miss out. The video will be posted on on our page after the recording has finished.

Over the last few months, we have started highlighting charities that need your help now more than ever. Due to COVID-19, many have been forced to close their doors, stop providing services, and cancel important fundraising events. Recently, Jared had the opportunity to connect with Girls in the Know's Kristen Carroll. Learn about how they've pivoted during this time in the video below.

Businesses across the country continue to face economic hardships as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Check out this article describing how Midwest BankCentre signed a deal with a national group to help minority-owned businesses access PPP loans.

During these challenging times, one of the best ways to protect you and your family is to stay educated. The CARES Act offers economic assistance for workers, families, and small businesses, and preserves jobs for American industries.

On our website we have outlined how nonprofits and other businesses can retain current employees and rehire ones that were furloughed or laid off using the new CARES Act. This includes receiving forgivable loans if you use the money for specific things outlined by the law. Read more on our blog!

If your organization has been affected or you know of one experiencing hard times due to these challenging times, email us at stl@givable.org. We are here for you!
